A Gala Opening Night: Yo Yo Ma and the SF Symphony

September 05, 2017

With its global reputation for musical excellence, the San Francisco Symphony attracts some of the finest musicians, guest performers, and conductors in the world. The Symphony’s 2017 season will continue this tradition when internationally-renowned cello virtuoso Yo Yo Ma joins conductor Michael Tilson Thomas for an opening night gala concert on Thursday, September 18th. The evening will begin with red-carpet arrivals for an elegant black-tie dinner at San Francisco’s City Hall. Cocktails will be served in the South Light Court, followed by dinner under the Rotunda. After the concert, the After-Party will feature drinks and dancing, along with delectable tidbits from some of the Bay Area’s superlative culinary artists.

The concert begins at 8:00 p.m., and the program features Bernstein’s “Overture to Candide,” Saint-Saens’ “Cello Concerto No. 1,” Tchaikovsky’s “Variations on a Rococo Theme,” and Ravel’s “Bolero.” Proceeds will benefit the Symphony’s community, artistic, and educational programming. Seating for the opening night gala dinner and concert is limited, and packages for all events are available. For tickets and more information, call (415) 503-5500, or click here.
