60th Annual San Francisco International Film Festival

April 01, 2017

The landmark 60th anniversary of the San Francisco International Film Festival will be held from April 5th through April 19th. The SIFF is the longest-running film festival in the Americas, and has a well-deserved, worldwide reputation as “an extraordinary showcase of cinematic discovery in one of the most beautiful cities in the country.” Each year the SIFF unveils a combination of new media, premieres, musical performances, documentaries, and international competitions to everyone from seasoned cineastes to film newbies.

This year’s festival centerpiece is “Patti Cake$,” director Geremy Jasper’s breakout selection at Sundance 2016. Aussie actress Danielle Macdonald plays Patricia Dombrowski, a plus-size New Jersey hip-hop artist blessed with a dynamic gift for lyrics. She struggles to thrive despite her working-poor dysfunctional environment. Patti is derided, marginalized, and self-deprecating, but refuses to let the haters win. She stays strong and looms large - a genuine, anti-Hollywood, indie heroine.

“Patti Cake$” will be shown at the Castro Theater on April 12th, at 7:30 p.m. For tickets and more information about the festival film lineup, call (415) 621-6120.
