Cool Jazz for Hot Days: The Fillmore Jazz Festival

July 01, 2017

This July, jazz aficionados will converge on Fillmore Street in San Francisco’s Pacific Heights neighborhood for the 33rd Annual Fillmore Jazz Festival. The largest jazz music festival of its kind on the West Coast, the festival will offer some of the hippest jazz by some of the industry’s finest musicians, along with trendy eats and locally-made arts and crafts. Held on Saturday, July 1st and Sunday, July 2nd, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. both days, the festival pays homage to the 50th anniversary of the Summer of Love with the theme, “Summer of Love Revisited.” Some of the festival’s musicians will perform songs from that era, demonstrating that Jazz can also express itself through other musical genres.

Saturday’s musicians will perform on multiple stages, and the talent includes Carla Helmbrecht, the Terry Disley Experience Trio, Kim Nalley, Hip Spanic All-Stars, the Jerome Jennings Group, Sundra Manning, Liza Silva Voz do Brasil, Hella Fitzgerald, Rojai & the Pocket, and Miss E.C. Scott. Sunday’s lineup includes Gary Zellerbach with Al Lazard and the World Street Players, Trio Garufa, Linda Tillery and the Freedom Band, Fu Man Chu, Fazz, Atta Kid, and Jackie Turner, along with many others.
