SMUIN Presents "The Christmas Ballet"

December 05, 2016

Just in time for the holidays, SMUIN will present the 21st anniversary version of The Christmas Ballet, a two-hour contemporary dance performance that has become an annual holiday must-see. From its first showing in 1995, none of the productions have been exactly the same, and this year’s show is no exception – Act I, “Classic Christmas” features 37 dance routines, while Act II, “Cool Christmas” includes over 50, and both acts retain the old while incorporating the new.

From the ballet’s quintessential opening act, “Magnificat,” the reverent “Veni, Veni Emmanuel,” the Louis Armstrong-inspired “Christmas in New Orleans,” the whimsical hula dancers of “Christmas Island” and the ever-popular, boa-twirling “Santa Baby,” the ballet will charm and delight viewers with beloved classics and latest repertory additions.

The Christmas Ballet will be shown December 7-11 at the Mountain View Center for the Arts, and December 15-24 at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco. Call (650) 903-6000 or (415) 912-1899 for reservations.
