Two of the Best Film Fests

March 02, 2020

One of the best things about San Francisco is that the city offers proximity to the finest cultural events. In addition to the ballet, theater, and symphony, the city is also among the major venues for national and international film festivals, such as the two listed below.

SF International Ocean Film Festival

With a mission to raise awareness regarding ocean-related issues with environmental, social, and cultural significance, the 17th Annual San Francisco International Ocean Film Festival will be held March 12-15, 2020 at the Cowell Theater at the Fort Mason Center. The fest will feature dozens of indie shorts, documentaries, animations, and narratives from all over the world. Topics range from whales, sharks, and additional types of sea life to surfing and sustainable seafood, and the festival often includes panel discussions with attending filmmakers.

The 18th Annual USF Human Rights Film Festival

Screening from March 26-28 at the USF Presentation Theater, this film fest contains film about global human rights abuses. The goal is to inform the public about torture, political repression, and disappearances, as well as environmental destruction, poverty, HIV, and the effects of war on children.
